Step into the Liberty Lair… and prepare to be swept away in the virtuosic sounds of jazz guitarist Tom Ollendorff and his trio at this year’s Perth International Jazz Festival. This show is part of a world tour to celebrate the release of his highly anticipated new album, Atlantic Angels.
The London-based musician is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents on the international jazz scene, thanks to a playing style that masterfully combines lyrical sensitivity, rhythmic fluidity and a distinctively warm tone. Add to this is a sophisticated approach to composition and you have a potent combination that consistently entrances audiences.
The Guardian has praised his “meticulous eloquence”, while All About Jazz cites his “exquisite, virtuoso musicianship that tugged at the heart strings as much as it thrilled”. Ollendorf’s trio is rounded out by two of the world’s most in-demand musicians, longtime collaborator and double bassist Conor Chaplin and New York–based drummer JK Kim.
In the worlds of Jazzwise, “His appeal is not hard to understand: a combination of fearsome musical chops, ambitiously sophisticated compositional sensibility and an unashamedly tuneful upbeat musical personality is very hard to resist.”

Tom is known for his highly distinctive sound which blends virtuosic technique and sophisticated harmonic concepts with nuance and sensitivity.
A graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff, Tom was awarded the Yamaha Parliamentary Jazz Scholarship in 2016. This propelled him into an international touring career that has seen Tom perform at many of Europe’s best known jazz clubs including Ronnie Scott’s, Sunset-Sunside, Jamboree, Jimmy Glass, Jazz-Hus Montmartre, Nardis, Budapest Jazz Club, Jazz in Bess, Jazz Club Ferrara as well as performances at notable festivals such as London Jazz Festival, Koa Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival and the One Day Jazz Festival.
His 2023 album Open House continued his work with his long-term trio featuring Marc Michel on drums and Conor Chaplin on bass, with the addition of the critically acclaimed saxophonist Ben Wendel on a handful of tracks. The recent release has received global recognition and has seen Tom continue to build his international reputation and following. Alongside his work as a bandleader, Tom has been fortunate to work extensively as a sideman with a wide range of artists including Ari Hoenig, Bill McHenry, Geoff Simkins, Huw Warren, Tim Garland, Nitai Hershkovits and The Fresh Sound Ensemble.
