DJ Yella
DJ Yella is an American born producer, rapper, film director and musical star who hails from the city of Compton.
A member of the notorious World Class Wreckin’ Crew with the legendary Dr Dre, Yella then went on to found one of the key rap groups ever in NWA. Along with Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Arabian Prince, DJ Yella fomented a raw, politically charge brand of rap that turned out a classic album and many standout singles. Working with Dre, Yella also produced the first album from Easy-E, Eazy-Duz-It as well as all of the NWA catalogue. In all the band sold millions of records around the world and in 2012 Yella made a solo return to the fold with his album West Coastin’.
In the meantime, he worked on plenty of albums such as J.J. Fad's second album Not Just a Fad (released in 1990), Yomo Maulkie's album, Are U Xperienced? (1991), two tracks from Eazy-E's It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa (from 1993), the gold-selling hit single Foe tha Love of $ from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Creepin on ah Come Up E.P. Of course, Yella was one of the stars of the hit Holly wood film Straight Outta Compton and was played by Neil Brown, Jr. In the years after he backed away from music, Yella became an adult movie director and worked on more than 300 films. To this day he remains an icon of the rap genre and is in demand around the world.
Lil E
Since the time of N.W.A, West Coast has been notably less prominent in the rap scene. Eric Wright Jr. has added a simple "Lil" to his father's name and is ready to make his own mark in hip hop.
"[Rapping] is something that I was born with, but I got into it two years ago," Lil Eazy-E says "It's just an option I made two years ago, and it was a natural talent, so I decided to just go with it."
He first appeared on the hip hop scene with Daz Dillinger, during which time an independent album release was expected. However, no contract was actually signed. Lil Eazy E formally was signed to Virgin Records; however, a change in executive management at Virgin, delayed the release of his anticipated album "Prince of Compton". Lil Eazy-E left Virgin Records for a deal with Blackground and Universal Motown Records Group in 2006. With Blackground Records being urban based, no album was released so Lil Eazy E used this time to record singles upon singles. During which time, he did features with several artists including The Game, Jim Jones, Kokane, as well as other artists. Lil Eazy E released a mixtape which received international attention. In 2011, Blackground finally released Lil Eazy E, giving him the freedom to do as he pleased with his music.
With over 49 unreleased new recordings in the past few years as a solo artist as well as over 20 songs with his group, Compton MoneyGang, Lil Eazy E is set make his mark on the hip hop scene with an album which will include features from the likes of Bone Thugs N Harmony, Ice Cube, and many others.
