PJS Presents: Koi Kingdom (MELB) and Ghost Gum Reverb
Perth Jazz Society are thrilled to present Melbourne based Koi Kingdom, supported by local act Ghost Gum Reverb. Don’t miss this night of ambient improvised music!
KOI KINGDOM
Melbourne trio Koi Kingdom are coming to WA! Koi Kingdom released their second album, Pink Milk, in 2021 with a third album in the works. Their music is a concoction of many different influences served in the form of a drummerless trio. You might hear touches of Samba, Metal, Avant-garde Jazz under the structures of long compositional forms and adventurous improvisations. The three move in perfect syncronisation, balancing solid grooves and interwoven melodies over underlying and constantly changing time meters. This is Koi Kingdom's debut visit to WA so it's a special one.
Ghost Gum Reverb
Ghost Gum Reverb is an avant-garde improvising group, playing music that brings the expression and intensity of free jazz together with the and the hypnotic, trance-like repetitions of ambient music and the expanded sound pallet of free improvisation.
Comprised of Josten Myburgh (alto saxophone), Djuna Lee (double bass), Jameson Feakes (electric guitar) and Ben Greene (drums), the group has an idiosyncratic sound that defies genre, strengthened by the rich collaborative history of the performers across a variety of projects in the last eight years. Ghostly, fragile bowed strings meet sombre harmony, propulsive drumming and highly textured, circular-breathed saxophone phrases.
Ghost Gum Reverb have performed in ambient, jazz, electronic & pop contexts alike, including concerts at the Perth International Jazz Festival, Aesoteric (WA Museum Boola Bardip), Goolugatup Sounds and AM/EX.
