Jo Lawry Acrobats Trio
The Perth International Jazz Festival is proud to present the Jo Lawry Acrobats Trio.
Jo Lawry, has been described by New York Times as a “singer of dazzling self-possession”.
Lawry has released four albums since 2008, after leaving Adelaide for New York, where she lived for 17 years. She has recorded and toured with Sting since 2009 and appeared in the 2013 documentary 20 Feet from Stardom.
Her latest release, Acrobats, has been described by The Sydney Morning Herald as “a gem tossed high in the air, flashing and sparkling – and somehow never falling”.
Jo Lawry’s debut album, I Want to Be Happy, was named one of the “Best CDs of the Decade” by Downbeat Magazine, but she has become known beyond jazz circles for her work with Sting, with whom she has toured and recorded since 2009, and more recently with Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel.
For this performance, Jo is joined by Sam Anning (bass) and Ben Vanderwal (drums) to celebrate Jo’s latest trio album, “Acrobats.” The Sydney Morning Herald calls the album “a gem tossed high in the air, flashing and sparkling – and somehow never falling”.
