DJ ASSAULT has had a large hand in bringing ghetto-tech, aka booty music, from the urban streets of Detroit to the suburban club circuit. The incorporation of electro beats with hardcore, sometimes pornographic lyrics, is what makes ghetto-tech highly distinguishable from its other techno cousins. (Though DJ Assault actually formed as a duo -- with Craig Adams and Ade' Mainor, aka Mr. De -- the latter left in 2000.) Two self-run record labels, Assault Rifle and Electrofunk, have released Assault's signature tracks, "Crank This Mutha," "Sex on the Beach," and "Ass and Titties."

LADY SHAKA is an Afro Pasifika DJ based in London whose musical selection is a representation of both her queer identity as a femme queen and her connection to the moana (ocean) and her diaspora. Lady Shaka is a part of the new generation of young Pasifika DJs and producers re-indigenising the mainstream with music that is both Pasifika and ancestral. Known for her work as the director and curator of Pulotu Underworld and work with collectives Filth, Misery and Juicebox. She has featured on platforms such as Boiler Room and Keep Hush and has worked with artists and brands such as IAMDDB, Stella McCartney and Ed Curtis to name a few.
