Faces and Spaces of Cockburn: Stories Waiting to be Told
Faces and Spaces of Cockburn celebrates the rich and diverse stories that have shaped our community.
The program kicks off at cultural icon Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill with a welcome event and two exhibitions: “Wisdom Keepers: the Untold Stories of Community” featuring photographic portraits by Nic Duncan, and a display of Nyungar artworks from the City’s collection.
On the Saturday and Sunday mornings, attendees can enjoy engaging talks and panels on topics such as Midgegooroo’s story, the murder of a Hami Hill camel trader in 1896, the layered history of Bibra Lake, and Coogee Beach’s transformation. A new exhibition: “Passion and Protest: Cockburn Community Speaks Up” explores issues important to our local communities over time.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, guided tours to historic sites such as Manning Park, Coogee, the Bibra Lake wetlands, and Woodman Point Quarantine Station will offer further insights into the stories embedded in our local landscapes.
Saturday night features a relaxed dinner at Council Chambers, with entertainment and a sit-down meal.
Wrapping up the conference on Sunday afternoon are drinks and nibbles at Coogee Common
