07:00pm, Wed 20th Nov 2024

The Rechabite presents 🌈🍓 PRIDE BURLY JAM 🍓🌈 as part of PRIDE PALACE at The Rechabite and PrideFEST 2024.

with host Ruby Slippers (Naarm)

Wednesday 20th November 7pm - 11pm

Welcome to PRIDE BURLY JAM! In honour of Pride 2024, The Rechabite is holding a very special, one-night-only Burly Jam! We’ll have a DJ all night long, live burlesque competitions voted by crowd cheer, food and drink from Double Rainbow delivered right to you in the Hall, and our beloved host visiting us from Naarm, Ruby Slippers!

Tickets are just $17 + booking fee at presale, $28 at the door, so buy early to save yourself some money!

Pride and Burlesque go hand in hand, but at Pride celebrations and events around the world, this is often forgotten, with artforms like drag seeing much more representation. Burlesque has long been pioneered and supported by queer people, especially queer women, around the world. Here in Boorloo, our gorgeous burly community is home to many incredible queer artists. This event honours and celebrates burlesque as an artform that remains revolutionary to this day, and creates a space that actively welcomes all burlesque performers and watchers who identify as queer - but of course, absolutely everyone who loves burlesque is welcome, no matter how they identify!

“Burlesque empowers women and people of marginalised genders by increasing their personal control and self-determination. Many performers find that the burlesque scene can be a healing space as well as a creative outlet, allowing them to explore and redefine their identities. This is often combined with a rejection of sexist ideas about bodies and erotic performance. Burlesque allows women and others to showcase their own sensuality, sexuality and eroticism on their own terms.”
