LOST TALK
LOST TALK are a whirlwind of tastes and flavours, each delivering the diverse musical backgrounds of its band members. Driven by feverish, penetrating guitars and a carnally discordant rhythmic section, LOST TALK drag you through the disasters and redemptions of modern life. Amy Mowle’s sometimes salty, sometimes sweet, frenetic narration delivers stream-of-consciousness reveries that follow their musical descent into the depths of chaotic dissonance and back. From the irony of destruction, to the beauty of the downfall, LOST TALK’s shameless intensity forces you to contemplate the contradictions of existence and the absurdity of your own place within it.

Forming in late 2016 in Melbourne, Australia, LOST TALK was wrought from a repertoire of undead bands, Steven Smith - Guitar (SCUL HAZZARDs), Max Ducker - Guitar (Mutton/ Hoarse), Liz Turner - Drums/Percussion (Assassination Collective/Jihad Against America ), Sam Reid - Drums (Bone), Ben Rose - Bass (Narco Paloma/King Crime), and offbeat songstress, Amy Mowle - Vocals... new to the game. Lost Talk deliver a relentless, unique noise-rock set that has appeared presumably out of nowhere.

After a string of successful shows in the band’s freshman year, including playing 3RRR’s April After Dark showcase alongside RVG and The Smith Street Band. LOST TALK slowed down to write and produce its first LP, SYMBOL/SIGNAL, release on vinyl/digital through Spooky Records in Feb 2018. The album was recorded at Max's Cellar Sessions Studio by Max and Steven, who worked to complement the themes dealt with throughout the album, lending substance and extracting the true essence of the band for a sound that is as consistent as it is unpredictable.

Tobacco Rat
Tobacco Rat, aka Jake Steele, has established himself as one of the most unique and distinct voices in the underground Australian electronic music scene. His eerie tones and industrial textures add a warped and intense context to his beats and melodies, and although he sets his sights on sonically exploring urban decay and experimentation through his music, he’s also very conscious of unleashing pleasing audio attacks on his audience.

His latest EP, Component V2.0 features the singles The Plague and Unearth featuring Tobacco Rat’s signature slice of darkness – a hard hitting experimental dubstep journey straight into the underground city sewers to witness firsthand the uprising of the recent rat plague overrunning the cities. This release from the critically acclaimed producer and performer is the same brain-warping music we’ve come to expect from Tobacco Rat, as he marries his love of brutal beats, walls of reverb, futuristic samples, and that eerie sheen he somehow manages to polish into all his tracks.

"Throw what you thought you knew about bass music into the gutter, because Tobacco Rat’s latest output ‘Snarl’ will propel you into a warped-out world of darkness. In an expertly constructed combination of mind-bending glitches, haunting soundscapes, and as always, heaving bass, ‘Snarl’ shows off Tobacco Rat’s experimental mastery in its peak form."
(Emilie Carmona, Stoney Roads)

This individual sound has landed him praise from Triple J, who have given regular love to ‘SNARL and ‘GANGSTA,’ as well as picking Tobacco Rat as their Listen Out Perth Unearthed winner back in 2016 off the back of his breakout single ‘Infra.’ He’s since gone on to been celebrated by the likes of The Music, Pilerats, The Interns, and Futuremag.

Tobacco Rat is a project ideally experienced live, where an array of elements comes together for a dynamic and engaging live show. Reactive visuals (tailor-made for the music and controlled onstage by Steele) create an electrifying atmosphere made all the more intriguing with the use of analogue synths and MIDI controllers to trigger samples and FX on-the-go. Tobacco Rat’s infamous stage shows have also recently seen him once again play the Perth leg of the Listen Out festival, Groovin’ the Moo, EMCPlay in Sydney, Melbourne Music Week, supporting Empire of the Sun in Los Angeles and the Perth Festival supporting Mogwai. In August he featured on Triple J Mixup with a 1 hour mix which was aired around the country, and the single Snarl was featured on SATURATE Records Mondaze Finest - Vol 6 compilation.

Tobacco Rat was the WAMi Best Electronic Act (Live) at the 2017 Awards and Best Electronic Track for Trenchtown 2020 (2016) and Infra (2017) at the WAM Song of the Year Awards.

ALEX and YELL

Aleksandra and Jelena Rnjak best known as ALEX AND YELL, are electronic musicians’ recognised for their immersive synthesised stage performance and electronic atmospheric tracks. Reinventing an alternative way to looking at a DJ set, the sisters took it upon themselves to recreate a live club and festival performance vibe, using robust analogue synthesisers, drum machines, and an arsenal of plugins and tools controlled through Ableton Live. In 2017 they shared the stage with other Perth artists including Feels, Tobacco Rat and The Intenso Band that are also pushing new movements in the Perth electronic scene. Alex and Yell are also passionate supporters of the arts, engaging with community groups, including an RTR guest appearance, and participating in pursuits and campaigns with WOMPP. They also served as lead composers on Arteries by Ancestry and The Trembling Giant for The Blueroom Theatre Seasons in 2016-17. The artists have been working diligently throughout 2018 to complete an album and accompanying Live Set to be released at the end of the year.
